Job Description
Project Director – Data centres
£90,000 – £100,000
Based in Canary Wharf
Position Overview:
The Project Director will take ownership of the entire lifecycle of data center construction projects, from design and planning to execution and final handover. This role requires a strategic leader with a deep understanding of data center operations, project management methodologies, and a proven track record of delivering large-scale projects on time, within scope, and on budget. The Project Director will work closely with internal teams, clients, vendors, and contractors to ensure the successful delivery of complex and high-stakes projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Strategy: Lead and direct all aspects of data center projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives, budget, timelines, and quality standards.
- Project Planning & Execution: Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including scope, schedules, and resource allocation. Oversee the execution of the projects to ensure they meet the agreed deliverables.
- Stakeholder Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders. Build and maintain strong relationships to ensure collaboration and project success.
- Team Management: Lead and manage cross-functional teams, ensuring clear communication, motivation, and accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Risk & Issue Management: Identify potential risks, develop mitigation plans, and address issues proactively to avoid delays or disruptions to the project.
- Budget & Resource Management: Oversee project budgets and ensure effective use of resources. Ensure that projects stay within budget and provide regular updates to leadership on financial performance.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure all work is completed in compliance with industry standards, building codes, and safety regulations. Uphold the highest standards of quality control across all phases of the project.
- Reporting & Documentation: Provide regular status reports to senior management, clients, and stakeholders, documenting key milestones, issues, and resolutions.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven experience (10+ years) in managing large-scale data center construction projects or similar technical infrastructure projects.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in a leadership or director-level project management role.
- Strong knowledge of data center design, construction, and operational requirements (including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, security, and network systems).
- Expertise in project management methodologies (PMI, Agile, etc.) and project management software (MS Project, Primavera, etc.).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and deliver projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of budget management, scheduling, and risk mitigation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- PMP or similar project management certification is preferred.
