VAT Accountant
Location: Stepps (Hybrid Working Available)
Hours: Monday to Friday – Core Office Hours
Salary: £41,000 (Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £51,970) + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
Outsource UK is recruiting for an experienced and motivated VAT Accountant to join a high-performing Treasury, Tax, and Insurance (TTI) team within a major public-sector aligned finance function. If you\’re passionate about VAT compliance, process improvement, and stakeholder engagement, this could be the perfect next step in your career.
The Role: As VAT Accountant, you’ll serve as the in-house VAT Subject Matter Expert, ensuring full VAT and indirect tax compliance across the organisation. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external bodies, developing strong relationships to support ongoing compliance and reduce tax risk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and review monthly VAT returns and submissions in line with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements
- Conduct internal compliance audits and deliver VAT training where needed
- Maintain and improve VAT procedures and documentation
- Advise on VAT implications for new systems and business initiatives
- Liaise with HMRC on audits and enquiries
- Monitor VAT legislative changes and embed them in operational processes
- Support the broader tax strategy and participate in cross-industry tax groups
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong technical knowledge of UK VAT regulations
- Proven VAT experience, ideally gained in a large corporate or public-sector environment
- A relevant accounting or tax qualification (e.g., ATT, ACCA, ACA, CIMA) or equivalent experience
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex tax issues for non-specialists
- Excellent IT proficiency, especially in Excel and enterprise accounting systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP)
- Highly organised with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
