Based at County Hall and working in the Development Management Team, this is an exciting and varied position supporting the team in the assessment and determination of planning applications submitted to the County Council. The post will appeal to those with previous experience in planning support roles and also to graduates seeking to take their first steps in the planning profession.

You will take the lead for the day to day management of the team’s planning application database, from uploading new applications, to carrying out publicity and consultation, to processing all representations received during the consideration of applications, taking into account any data protection requirements.

You will be responsible for organising public speaking arrangements at the County Council’s Planning and Rights of Way Committee and lead on the delivery of improvements to the team’s database, report statistics to the Government and Committee on the performance of the Development Management Team in determining planning applications within statutory timeframes, and manage historic records in accordance with the team’s retention schedule.

The role offers the opportunity to handle a varied workload, including undertaking some planning application and monitoring work as workloads allow. As you are likely to be one of the main points of contact in the team, the post requires effective liaison with other officers, both within the team and across the wider authority, along with elected Members and members of the public, all the time respecting issues of a sensitive nature by working with tact and diplomacy.
