Would you like to work in one of the largest Private Housing Services in England and help improve Bristol’s private rented sector housing standards?

Bristol is a vibrant city, with nearly 30% of its population living in the private rented sector. We have a new property licence scheme and are preparing to meet the challenges of; the Renters Rights Bill and accelerating the remediation of High – and Mid-Rise residential buildings.


We seek individuals with both technical expertise and supervisory skills to manage small teams of front-line officers such as Environmental Health Housing Officers, Private Housing Caseworkers, Tenancy Relations Officers and or a Trading Standards Officer.

Your team will handle Tenancy Relations and Trading Standards cases in the private rented sector. There may also be opportunities to lead the High-Rise Fire Safety team or to provide Technical support and Landlord and Tenant Engagement.


Your responsibilities will include allocating and monitoring caseloads, supporting, coaching, and mentoring less experienced colleagues, and planning and delivering effective training programs.


Collaborating with the Private Housing Manager and other Team Leaders, you will ensure the effective delivery of the Private Housing Service across the city.


Scope of Work

The Private Housing Service addresses a wide range of private-sector housing issues, including licensing of rented properties, their inspections, compliance, enforcement, and engagement. Empty homes, service requests for other private rented properties, landlord and tenant liaison. Future opportunities may arise to work in these different areas.

You will have extensive post-qualification environmental health housing practice with experience of inspections, scheduling, informal engagement, formal legal processes, and extensive experience of working in a customer-focussed front – line service.
