Quantity Surveyor – Groundworks & Civil Engineering Hertford (Hybrid Working Available) Salary: £50,749 – £65,000 per year Job Type: Full-time | Monday to Friday The Role As a Quantity Surveyor, you will lead the commercial aspects of multiple live projects, supporting the project team to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and driving financial performance. You\’ll play a hands-on role in subcontractor procurement, monthly reporting, and managing project variations and claims. Key Responsibilities * Ensure accurate cost/value reporting and forecasting (CVRs) * Manage and update commercial reports and cash flow forecasts * Lead procurement and negotiation of subcontracts and supply chain packages * Prepare and agree variations, claims, and final accounts * Ensure compliance with NEC/ICE contracts and commercial procedures * Mentor junior QS staff and support overall commercial team development * Liaise with site teams to monitor progress and control commercial risk * Work closely with operational teams to ensure projects meet financial objectives Essential Experience: * HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent) * Proven experience in groundworks and civil engineering (e.g., drainage, RC works, earthworks, external services) * Strong understanding of NEC or ICE forms of contract * Experience with subcontract management, monthly valuations, and final accounts * Proficient in cost planning, forecasting, and earned value analysis * Strong communication and team leadership skills * Ability to challenge, influence, and support project decisions commercially Desirable: * Member of RICS or equivalent professional body (or working towards) What’s in It for You? * Competitive base salary * Company car or car allowance * Generous package including flexible benefits * Genuine opportunity for growth with a respected, expanding subcontractor * Exposure to major projects and high-value infrastructure works
