The Role

This is an opportunity to join a dedicated group of academics in the School of Life Sciences, Pharmacy and Chemistry, which host a varied programme of research-led, accredited courses where Analytical Chemistry contributes to the core of the Forensic, Pharmaceutical Science and Chemistry Programmes across two departments within the school (The Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and The Department of Applied and Human Sciences). Your role will be to develop and deliver cutting edge focused application of Analytical Chemistry to Forensic Analysis, Forensic Toxicology and Bioanalysis. You will plan, deliver, and assess a range of modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the above areas, using a variety of approaches. This will include classroom and practical work in our modern, well-equipped laboratories. You will provide direct supervision to UG and PG students during their research projects. It is expected that you will engage in developing your research and/or enterprise activity, using the latest analytical instrumentation (including top of the range GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS Q-TOF and ISO 17025 accredited Kingston Analytical Services Toxicology centre), supported by numerous faculty and University-led competitive funding schemes, for emerging researchers. You will play an active role in the work of the school outside the classroom – for example outreach, open days, and personal tutoring.

The Person

You will use your subject expertise in Analytical chemistry to be able to deliver case study-based/application focussed teaching on Forensic Toxicology and Bioanalysis across two departments within the school (The Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and The Department of Applied and Human Sciences). You will be imparting practical scientific knowledge, and real-world skills to students making them sought after in their future careers. Your teaching will contribute to the Forensic Science, Pharmaceutical Science and Chemistry courses.

The ideal applicant will therefore have academic, and preferably industrial experience in method development, validation and working to ISO 17025 standards using LCMS, GC-MS/MS and HPLC. You will have some experience in the analysis of samples for forensic toxicology, environmental monitoring and pharmaceuticals. The candidate will have experience in the interpretation of toxicity results from a variety of assays and analytical techniques; The candidate should also have familiarity and knowledge of quality systems and statistics . In addition to your undergraduate degree, you will hold a doctorate in a relevant Analytical Chemistry related discipline. You will also be a flexible team worker, responsive to the needs of the school. On a personal level, your core motivation will be to deliver exceptional teaching, research, and support to our students.

By the end of the probation period, you must have achieved the relevant level of UKPSF recognition (if this has not already been obtained). For those new to teaching, this will be through our accredited Introduction to Learning and Teaching and for those experienced in teaching, through our Kingston Academic Practice Standards Framework.
