The Opportunity
We’re working with a high-growth retail and consumer business undergoing major transformation, including refinancing, M&A activity, and a complete re-think of their treasury strategy. This is an opportunity for a hands-on, strategic operator to take full ownership of the treasury function and evolve it into a best-in-class platform. You’ll work directly with the Finance Director and wider SLT, with a clear path to Group Treasurer as the business scales. It’s a rare chance to build, lead, and shape a function from operational structure and controls to long-term funding and capital planning.
This role will suit someone with strong experience in treasury leadership or an ambitious No.2 ready to step up who brings a solid track record across liquidity management, debt structuring, and FX, ideally within a fast-paced, leveraged or PE-backed environment. You’ll be commercially sharp, confident, influencing senior execs and external stakeholders (banks, lenders, advisors), and just as comfortable rolling up your sleeves to get things moving. Strong knowledge of treasury systems, cashflow modelling, and banking infrastructure is key. ACT qualification is preferred but not essential.
Why this role?
- Build something: Full ownership of the treasury agenda in a business that needs it.
- Grow with the business: Progression to Group Treasurer clearly mapped out.
- Strategic seat at the table: Work alongside the CFO, FD, and M&A leads from day one.
- Real impact: Shape the future of treasury in a high-growth, complex environment where your input matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Take the lead on shaping and delivering the Group’s short- and long-term cash and liquidity agenda from day-to-day cash control to strategic forecasting and ensuring sufficient funding headroom.
- Design and optimise intercompany funding models, pooling structures, and group banking operations, working closely with Barclays and internal stakeholders to align with business growth.
- Spot and address liquidity pressure points early by partnering with FP&A and operational teams to drive improvements in working capital and cash conversion.
- Own and drive automation across treasury operations including banking admin, reconciliations, and real-time cash visibility to streamline BAU and reporting processes.
- Act as the senior contact for all banking relationships, negotiating terms, reviewing facilities, and building long-term, strategic partnerships with external financial institutions.
- Lead the centralisation of bank platforms and controls, ensuring secure, compliant, and efficient processes around portal access, governance, and user management.
- Oversee covenant reporting, compliance, and ongoing due diligence (including KYC), while benchmarking costs and pushing for best-in-class banking service and pricing.
- Own and manage the Group’s debt strategy — monitoring maturities, managing refinancing activity, and structuring new facilities to support the capital needs of the business.
- Support the CFO and external advisors on M&A funding strategy stress testing treasury impact, assessing risk, and ensuring alignment to long-term capital structure objectives.
- Lead covenant compliance processes, negotiate loan terms, and maintain clear and proactive communication with lenders around business performance and forecast updates.
- Build, coach, and lead a high-performing treasury team setting goals, upskilling talent, and encouraging collaboration across wider finance and transformation initiatives.
- Define and implement the Group’s FX strategy, managing exposure ahead of planned expansion both on transactional and balance sheet positions.
- Evaluate hedging options, monitor interest rate exposure, and ensure risk management remains within policy and aligned with external advisor guidance.
- Monitor and manage counterparty exposure across the Group’s financial partners, ensuring appropriate diversification and risk controls.
- Strengthen internal treasury controls and reporting ensuring accuracy, audit readiness, and alignment with internal policy, regulatory frameworks, and exec expectations.
