The faculty incorporates seven academic departments with broad ranging programmes of activity across research, education, impact and engagement, thought leadership, and knowledge transfer, alongside several vibrant institutes and centres within which the role holder will be based.

About the role:

The Senior Centre Manager will play a key role in leading professional services support for KBS\’ portfolio of research centres and institutes. They will lead the professional services team function and work in close collaboration with Centre and Institute Directors and KBS Professional Service Heads to set and define operational, communications, research and impact and knowledge exchange activity, strategy and process.

They will support Centre and Institute Directors to define the scope and scale of operations and communications strategy and objectives, ensuring the ambitions also meet wider strategic objectives of KBS.

Responsibilities span a broad range of activity, for example ensuring financial sustainability through a pipeline of grants and income, oversight of a portfolio of budgets, ensuring shared learning and practice in operations, communications, impact and knowledge exchange across all centres and institutes, and capturing outputs and knowledge to share effectively across internal and external boundaries.

They will lead and line manage the Centres and Institutes Business Operations team comprising of two Centre Managers, two Senior Business Operations Officers, and one Communications and Engagement Officer.

This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week) – part time considered at a minimum commitment of 0.8 FTE (28 hours per week). The role is offered on an indefinite contract. We would also consider applications for job-sharing and flexible working requests.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Educated to degree level or a minimum of 5 years professional experience in programme or portfolio management, research management, communications, impact or knowledge exchange
  2. Adept at understanding, analysing and presenting data to a wide-ranging audience, and using data and information to make informed business decisions
  3. Experience of managing complex multi-functional portfolios, teams and activities, monitoring and reporting on strategic and operational activity and financial performance
  4. Experience of delivering communications, knowledge exchange and / or public policy activity including drafting communications strategy, developing high impact content in a range of media and engaging internal and external stakeholders to deliver communications plans and objectives.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to interact with and influence a wide variety of stakeholders
  6. Experience of managing large or complex budgets, and monitoring and acting on financial performance and efficiencies alongside good numeracy skills and translation
  7. Experience leading, managing or mentoring individuals or teams, including supporting development and workload planning, with an inclusive management style.
  8. Commitment to continuous improvement and building an efficient and effective team and operational service

Desirable criteria

  1. Project Management, research management, marketing, communications or other similar equivalent qualification or training
  2. Experience working in Higher Education, research, academic, or policy related environment
