Job Description
As the leader for the Controls and Software Strategic Business Unit (SBU), the Vice President is responsible for targeting, encouraging, and maintaining, from a global perspective, a market leadership position. They will lead across all world areas to establish our C&S brands as the primary supplier within targeted industry segments. Through strategy setting, team leadership, market analysis, business and product development programs, pricing strategies and portfolio management, the Vice President will lead the SBU’s overall business strategy which will play a critical role in our financial performance.

As the leader for the Controls and Software Strategic Business Unit (SBU), the Vice President is responsible for targeting, encouraging, and maintaining, from a global perspective, a market leadership position. They will lead across all world areas to establish our C&S brands as the primary supplier within targeted industry segments. Through strategy setting, team leadership, market analysis, business and product development programs, pricing strategies and portfolio management, the Vice President will lead the SBU’s overall business strategy which will play a critical role in our financial performance.

This position will be either based in Modena , Italy or Augsburg , Germany, but we welcome applications from anyone willing to relocate in one of these two locations.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Generate and implement specific, targeted, and measurable growth plans through product and service solutions.
  • Offer mentorship on improving methods to market to specific segments and regions, along with relevant messaging.
  • Lead Emerson strategic growth and profitability events representing the entirety of the C&S portfolio strategy.
  • Participate in key project and account penetration planning and execution.
  • Evaluate, communicate and supervise market dynamics such as segment growth, new opportunities and trends in economies, technology, and driven positioning that impact divisional performance.
  • Be responsible for C&S’s pricing strategy and activities, gaining increased price every year.
  • Assess and prioritize opportunities based on market potential, customer feedback and return on investment.
  • Lead detailed evaluation of markets and business development opportunities outside current areas of engagement based on the evaluation of unmet customer needs, characterization of market segments and solution offerings.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Communications team, generating collateral by application to help the sales channel optimally communicate our value proposition.
  • Develop processes and personnel resources to continuously evaluate our product portfolio for growth and margin improvement opportunities. Evaluate product line for expansions, consolidations, or obsolescence.
  • Audit / identify product gaps and white space opportunities proposing product development / R&D initiatives through compelling arguments.
  • Work cross-functionally and across businesses, evaluating and prioritizing new product and custom solution opportunities that derive relevant and differentiated value propositions.
  • Use a standard operating rhythm for portfolio management, including supervising product performance, completing product lifecycle planning, and driving a healthy and increasingly profitable portfolio.
  • Ensure effective utilization of application/product training tools/materials by customer facing personnel, ensuring vital levels of expertise is maintained and current. Continuously upgrade sales collateral and deployment strategy.
  • Ensure sound mechanisms are in place to share successes across all world areas; coordinating campaigns and programs to leverage ‘wins’.
  • Lead and manage to align with our Vision and Mission, which involves communication, training, mentoring, timely performance feedback, recruitment, corrective action, and employee growth.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • Relevant years of progressive experience in sales / marketing experience, experience in Industrial Hardware and Software Industry and general management or industry strategy management commensurate with the level of this position.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven organizational, project management, written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply analytics techniques to business problems.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 25% of the time.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

  • 12+ years of progressive sales / marketing experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in Industrial Hardware and Software Industry.
  • 4+ years of experience in general management or industry strategy management.
  • Advanced degree in Marketing or Business.
  • Experience leading direct reports.
  • Experience in PAC/PLC, applications and services commercialization.
  • Experience in business development and B2B marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and influence within a global, multicultural environment.
