Monarch Education is recruiting on behalf of a primary school in Bournville for the position of a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant. This is a full-time position required to start as soon as possible (ASAP).

Job Specification:

The successful candidate will be a qualified and experienced Teaching Assistant with proven experience in supporting children with a range of SEND within a school environment.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Qualifications:
  • Mandatory: Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or a similar relevant qualification.
  • Experience:
    • Essential experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a UK primary school setting. This is a mandatory requirement.
    • Experience working with children with a variety of needs (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD .
    • Experience in implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or support plans.
  • Skills and Knowledge:
    • Understanding of different SEND conditions and effective strategies for supporting children with these needs.
    • Ability to build positive and supportive relationships with children, fostering their independence and confidence.
    • Skill in adapting learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
    • Ability to work effectively under the direction of the class teacher and/or SENDCo.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills, able to liaise effectively with pupils, staff, parents, and external professionals.
    • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures within a school setting.
  • Support and Intervention:
    • Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with SEND, both within the classroom and in separate intervention sessions.
    • Assist pupils with their academic learning, providing clarification and encouragement.
    • Support pupils with social and emotional development, promoting positive interactions and behaviour.
    • Assist with personal care needs where required (depending on the specific needs of the pupils).
    • Help create a positive and inclusive classroom environment for all pupils.
