Methanox is looking for a consultant who is a catalyst coatings engineer/scientist by training. We need high-impact expertise to guide us in coating ceramic monolith substrates with our proprietary catalyst. This may include experience on binders and slurry formulation, coating methodology, mesoporosity control and performance validation needed by the product development team. Your mission is to design, demonstrate and de-risk the complete coating workflow, then hand us a robust, repeatable process. The coatings consultant will work with senior leadership to develop research plans for creation and testing of slurry formulations and coating methods, oversee monolith activity testing and advise on scalability protocols. Once the research plans are in place, they will be responsible to provide feedback on results and reiterate methods depending on the outcomes. ResponsibilitiesDevelop and optimise research plans to evaluate slurry formulations with binder packages and mixing protocolsDevelop and optimise research plans to evaluate different coating methods on ceramic monolithAdvise on scalability of coating methods Establish a robust coating process across batches.Evaluate experiments and compare results to existing protocols and benchmarks to their knowledge.Oversee catalytic activity testing of coated monoliths and recommend thermal ageing, sulphation, hydrothermal stability protocols.Discuss results and deliver troubleshooting guides for next steps with the Methanox team on weekly operational callsTransfer know-how to Methanox’s research team and document standard operating procedures (SOPs)QualificationsMasters of Science or PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or equivalent experienceFamiliarity with physical and chemical analyses of coatings and surfaces (SEM, FTIR, XRD, ChemBET, CatLab)2 years in catalytic wash-coat or ceramic monolith manufacturing including demonstrable scale-up to at least pilot-plant level.Soft skills: clear communicator and able to coach a small multidisciplinary team.
