GPU Software Engineer – Mobile GPU Architecture (UK – PAYE Contract)
Location: Cambridge, UK (On-site)
Contract Type: PAYE (includes full benefits – annual leave, pension, etc.)
We’re looking for a highly skilled GPU Software Engineer to join a cutting-edge mobile GPU architecture team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of software and hardware — with a deep understanding of GPU drivers, modern 3D APIs, and future-looking architecture design.
What You\’ll Do:
- Design and develop features for 3D graphics APIs (e.g. Vulkan, DirectX)
- Investigate API improvements and prototype interface changes
- Propose and model changes to GPU architecture based on use cases and performance analysis
- Collaborate with driver, software, and hardware teams to identify bottlenecks and future opportunities
- Draft technical proposals and contribute to API extensions/specifications
- Analyze performance impact of new ideas and features
Requirements:
- BSc / MSc / PhD in a relevant field (e.g. Computer Science, EE, Applied Math)
- 5+ years experience in GPU driver development or GPU software architecture
- Strong knowledge of at least one of: Vulkan, DirectX (11/12), OpenGL ES, or Metal
- Deep understanding of rendering pipelines, GPU workloads, and performance tuning
- Proficiency in C++ and version control tools
- Must have the right to work in the UK
Bonus Points For:
- Experience with ray tracing, mesh shading, or neural rendering
- Familiarity with Khronos Group or GPU architecture specification work
- Strong communication skills and a proactive, research-oriented mindset
