Noel and Gertie

Noel and Gertie is a charming and witty two-hander play with music, celebrating the legendary friendship and professional partnership of No l Coward and Gertrude Lawrence. Compiled from Coward\’s diaries, letters, songs, and scenes from his plays, the piece offers an affectionate portrait of two theatrical icons. Blending sparkling dialogue, classic songs, and scenes from beloved works like Private Lives, Noel and Gertie is a nostalgic and elegant tribute to a golden age of theatre.

The piece is directed by Thom Southerland with Teddy Clements as Musical Supervisor, Cory Shipp as Set & Costume Designer and Choreography by Sam Spencer-Lane. Mark Dymock joins as Lighting Designer and Niamh Gaffney, Sound Designer.

The in-house Production Manager for the Production is Neil Kingston.

First week of rehearsals, week commencing 1st September 2025 (Mon-Saturday) in Bromley, London.

Second week (wk/c 8th Sep) moves to Southampton.

Production week commences 15th September, opening on Friday 19th September 2025.

Location

We then have a break week before touring to Curve, Leicester (Wk/c 6th October) and Blackpool Grand Theatre (Wk/c 15th October).

Duties

The DSM is responsible for coordinating all on-stage and backstage activity during rehearsals and performances. Duties include, maintaining the book, calling technical cues, acting as prompt where required and ensuring effective communication between the creative team, technical crew, and cast. On tour, the DSM will help maintain performance consistency and upholding clear communications with the Producer.

Fees

Weekly fee of £600, plus cover of travel and relocation/touring allowance as standard as per UK Theatre rates (Subsidised Theatre).

Duties

The SM oversees the smooth running of the production during production week and during the run of the production. Working alongside our dedicated group of Team Leader\’s to manage participants whilst on stage as well as having overview of the day-to-day operations alongside the Production Manager.

Responsibilities include managing schedules with the Production Manager, leading the technical and dress rehearsals on stage, managing welfare and discipline of freelancers and liaising with the Participation team regarding behavioural or welfare concerns with participants and ensuring the production maintains artistic and technical standards throughout the run. We have two ASM\’s assigned to this production with the Stage Manager being the third, lead member of this team.
