Base Location: Inverness, Aberdeen, Glasgow, or Perth. If you are interested in relocating to North of Scotland/Western Isles, we are happy to discuss further.
Due to the location and scale of our projects, there is requirement for the Project Manager to be on site, typically for 2-4 days every 2nd week overseeing both construction and safety, health, welfare and environment requirements of the project.
Salary: £50,100 – £75,100 + car / car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
We are looking for a Project Manager to join our SSEN Transmission, Offshore Delivery Team to deliver a 400kV substation package within a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) project, which forms part of our Pathway to 2030 Programme. Reporting into the Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of the 400kV substation package at one of our HVDC Converter station sites. This will include managing a multi-disciplinary project team and framework supply chain partners under the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework.
The scale of our portfolio of projects are large and is likely to grow in the coming years, meaning there will be opportunities for progression within the business.
You will
- Monitor contractor progress and ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment & Wellbeing standards, championing SSE’s Safety Golden Rules.
- Support in the management of the New Engineering Contract (NEC 3) with contractors, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Support in the management of internal and external stakeholders, including framework supply chain partners from the ECI stage to construction stage, delivering to programme and budget
- Prepare project progress reports, financial reports, and other relevant documentation.
- Provide guidance and demonstrate our core values as well as manage teams, ensuring these are highly capable, well-motivated, and organised to deliver consistent excellence.
You have
- Prior experience delivering large-scale multi-disciplinary projects in a delivery role, typically on packages in excess of £20m+. Experience in the delivery of AC substations is preferred but not essential
- Knowledge and understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other key relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.
- Strong understanding of civil and electrical engineering principles, design standards, and construction practices.
- Contractual management experience (NEC3 experience is preferable), with the ability to forecast and control costs as well as develop and manage integrated project programmes.
- An engineering, construction, or project management qualification / degree or equivalent experience
