Job purpose, tasks and responsibilities
As our Instructional Designer, you’ll collaborate with internal teams to design and deliver engaging, effective learning experiences. You’ll create innovative content for online, self-led, and tutor-led formats, develop storyboards and scripts, and bring compliance-focused learning to life through thoughtful instructional design.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Analysing learning needs and recommending commercially viable, learner-focused solutions.
- Using AI tools to enhance efficiency, personalise content, and enhance learner engagement.
- Translating complex content into clear themes and engaging instructional strategies.
- Designing learner-driven content that aligns with commercial goals, budget and timelines.
- Modernising ICA products using current learning technologies and methods.
- Creating clear and structured content outlines, scripts, and storyboards to guide development teams.
- Championing best practices in learning design and contributing to high-level course structures.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts to refine and elevate course content.
- Managing multiple complex projects while maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.
- Ensuring quality and version control through effective use of Digital Asset Management systems.
- Applying design thinking to keep learner needs, commercial impact, and quality at the core of every solution.

Balancing creativity with commercial deadlines requires strong organisational skills, clear communication, and the ability to stay focused without compromising on quality.
Essential and desirable capabilities
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Previous experience in a similar role as an instructional designer, content designer, or eLearning designer in a predominantly commercial setting. Experience within a commercial learning business would be preferred.
- Degree-level and/ or similar qualifications within instructional design, learning design theory, pedagogy or similar fields.
- A strong track record in designing, developing, and quality-assuring both instructor-led and digital learning content.
- Solid understanding of instructional design theory and hands-on experience with learning, such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Practical experience integrating AI tools into learning development and delivery processes.
- Familiarity with LMS platforms, SCORM/ xAPI standards, and learning analytics.
- Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and inclusive design principles.
- Experience scripting and storyboarding for video and multimedia content.
- Confidence using project management and asset management tools.
To be successful in this role, it would be great if you have:
- Experience working in regulated industries such as financial compliance, governance, or similar sectors.
- Hands-on experience scripting and storyboarding for video production and multimedia content.
- A solid understanding of learning analytics and how to apply data-driven design approaches.
- Familiarity with agile or iterative development methodologies.
