Governance Clerk

Salary: BG6 £9,314.60 to £9,462.92 actual salary (£25,183 to £25,584 FTE)

Working Pattern: Average of 16 hours per week, during Term Time Only. This may include some evening and occasional weekend work.

Start date: Monday 1st September 2025 (pending vetting checks)

Thank you for your interest in this role. We are looking to appoint a Governance Clerk within our multi-academy trust.

Role of the Governance Clerk:

• Coordinate, attend, and clerk regular School Performance Board (SPB) meetings (both in-person and virtual), typically held during term time and during the school day.

• Provide clerking support for ad hoc governance meetings, including panels, disciplinary hearings, or working groups, as directed by the Governance Professional.

• Prepare and distribute agendas, meeting papers, and minutes in line with the Trust’s governance framework and timelines.

• Record accurate and impartial minutes, noting key decisions, actions, and areas of challenge and support.

• Track and follow up on actions arising from meetings.

• Provide advice to the SPB on trust governance, constitutional and procedural matters.

• Ensure the SPB is properly constituted in accordance with TiLA ‘s composition and operational papers.

• Ensure that the work of the SPB conforms to those responsibilities assigned to them via TiLA’s scheme of delegation.

• Manage information effectively in accordance with legal requirements.

• Liaise closely with TiLA Company Secretary regarding documentation required by the MAT.

• Support the induction and ongoing training of SPB members, ensuring compliance with governance requirements.

• Maintain up-to-date registers of interests, declarations, and SPB membership records.

• Assist with governor recruitment, DBS checks, and ensuring appropriate records are held

We are looking for someone with excellent organizational and administrative skills, who can manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines. They’ll have experience preparing agendas, taking accurate minutes, and following up on actions in a professional environment. Attention to detail is essential, along with the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential as you’ll be supporting senior leaders and engaging with a range of stakeholders.

The candidate should be confident using Microsoft Office and comfortable working with digital meeting platforms such as Teams.

Desirable to have some understanding of governance processes or regulatory compliance—but we’re happy to support the right candidate in developing this knowledge (e.g. experienced, creative, developmental, year group, specialism).

We need you to be adaptable, with the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. And most of all we are looking for someone who is kind – with a positive attitude and willingness to step in to help colleagues.
