Job Description
The Role
As the Smart Energy Consultant for Smart Meter Security & Privacy, you will be working on one of our Major Accounts in a dedicated team whose responsibility is to assure the security of smart meter devices, as defined in the Smart Energy Code – the rulebook for smart meters.
In your role as a subject matter expert in team, you will support the Security committees, Privacy committee and the SEC Panel – the lead governance committee overseeing the Smart Energy Code. You will work with governance team staff, ensuring draft meeting documentation and minutes they prepare are accurate and well written, the committee Chairs and key stakeholders are well supported, and that meetings are well run and effective. You will provide support for security projects associated with the Annual Security Obligations and provide smart metering data analysis to Industry meetings where applicable. And you will review upcoming topics to assess their potential impact on the SEC. In support of SEC Panel, you will also lead the review of materials for the Panel agenda, engaging with key stakeholders and/or third-party suppliers for their inputs as required.
Responsibilities
- Providing subject matter support to the SECAS team in relation to SECAS deliverables for the SSC, SMKI PMA, PSC and Panel meetings, ensuring their SEC obligations are fulfilled;
Building strong client relationships with the independent Chairs and industry stakeholders;
- Managing the security and privacy assessments for SEC Parties ensuring clear and timely communication with customers (including assessment scheduling and booking, stakeholder and SEC Party engagement) including:
- Liaising with service providers and internal consultancy who undertake the assessments, ensuring activities are delivered on time (i.e. User CIO);
- Liaising with the internal consultancy team who deliver Information Security support to our clients (i.e. Security and Privacy Experts);
- Answering email enquiries from customers and service providers (including managing the dedicated inboxes for Security and Privacy);
- Developing an understanding of priorities and key issues for DCC Users; engaging with Users to develop potential changes to ways of working;
- Drafting and or reviewing documents and meeting papers to ensure accuracy, consistency and quality;
- Supporting continuous improvement activities in relation to the processes and products of the team with a focus on innovation;
- Maintaining procedural documentation and work instruction manuals, and updating them as new requirements arise from SEC modifications and industry requests;
- Providing smart metering data analysis to Industry meetings where applicable, and ensuring good quality of data analysis across the team;
- Liaising with industry stakeholders (Energy Suppliers, Network Operators, Shared Resource Providers), Data Communications Company (DCC), the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) and Ofgem on the requirements of the SEC e.g., consultations, and representing SECAS views at industry governance and DCC run forums;
- Maintaining and enhancing Customer Guidance and Communications to ensure format is accessible and engaging;
- Processing CPL submissions, and resolving any related customer queries;
- Undertaking other activities as required by SECAS or the Independent Chair.
Salary Range £33,000 – £44,000 plus excellent benefits package

Successful candidates will also need:
- have detailed knowledge of the Smart Energy Code (SEC) and GB smart metering arrangements (essential) and understand the Security and Privacy requirements and obligations to support the Sub-Committee and SEC Parties in delivering their obligations (desirable);
- have demonstrable project management skills, be able to manage time and a varied workload, and be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities;
- have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, able to understand and communicate complex issues and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders;
- experience of delivering an exceptional service to stakeholders and have well-developed stakeholder management skills with proven ability to manage upwards, downwards and influence peers;
- be digitally, competent and able to present information in its clearest format for the intended audience;
- strive for excellence in their work being methodical, diligent and attention to the detail;
- have experience of drafting new and improving existing processes;
- have excellent planning and organisational abilities;
- have the ability to proactively identifying and addressing the client's requirements;
- have a background in SMART metering and or experience in UK retail utilities; and
- Desirable – be a university graduate or of graduate-calibre.
- Practical experience using Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Good time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines
- Ability to build relationships with employees at all levels and to be a team player
- Confidence and enthusiasm to present to colleagues and other stakeholders
