Job Description
Health Safety Environment Officer\\n\\nLocation: London \\n\\nSalary: up to £60,000 DOE \\n\\nJob Purpose:\\n\\nTo ensure the business operates in compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental legislation, with a particular focus on the risks associated with structural steel fabrication, handling, and erection. The role involves promoting a positive safety culture, preventing accidents, ensuring legal compliance, and driving continual improvements in HSE performance.\\n\\nKey Responsibilities:Health & Safety Compliance\\n\\nEnsure compliance with UK Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, CDM Regulations 2015, and other applicable laws.\\nConduct regular site and workshop inspections to identify hazards and ensure safe working practices.\\nMaintain and update risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and COSHH assessments.\\nSupport safe lifting operations in line with LOLER and PUWER regulations, particularly for cranes, hoists, and steel handling equipment.Incident & Accident Management\\n\\nInvestigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.\\nMaintain HSE records and produce reports for management and regulatory authorities.Training & Awareness\\n\\nDeliver safety inductions and toolbox talks for fabrication and site teams.\\nCoordinate training for working at height, confined spaces, manual handling, and hot works.Environmental Responsibilities\\n\\nMonitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including waste management, recycling, and pollution control.\\nImplement initiatives to reduce carbon footprint, energy use, and environmental impact.Documentation & Reporting\\n\\nKeep all HSE policies, procedures, and documentation up-to-date.\\nReport on HSE performance, KPIs, and improvement plans to senior management.Skills & Experience Desired:\\n\\nNEBOSH National General Certificate (minimum) or equivalent.\\nExperience in structural steelwork, fabrication, or construction industry.\\nWorking knowledge of UK HSE legislation, especially CDM 2015, LOLER, PUWER, and Work at Height Regulations.\\nStrong communication and influencing skills.\\nCompetent in incident investigation and root cause analysis.Key Personal Attributes:\\n\\nProactive and hands-on approach to safety.\\nAttention to detail with a problem-solving mindset.\\nAbility to work independently and as part of a team.\\nAbility to positively influence others\\nCommitted to fostering a safety-first culture. \\n\\nIf you feel like you tick the boxes on this great opportunity, apply today and the steel specialist Sabrina O'Donnell at The Highfield Company will be in touch
