Senior Medical Writer

A leading healthcare communications agency is seeking a Senior Medical Writer to join its growing team. The Role
Reporting to the Scientific Director, the Senior Medical Writer will serve as the primary medical writing lead across key accounts, collaborating closely with copywriters, strategists, and account teams to develop compelling, compliant, and scientifically robust communications.
This is a hands-on and strategically focused writing role, ideal for someone who loves translating complex science into powerful, creative communication. You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to concept development, client engagement, and mentoring junior writers.
Key Responsibilities
- Content creation: Develop engaging, scientifically accurate, and compliant content across a range of deliverables, including eDetail aids, congress materials, HCP and patient education programs, leavepieces, websites, and digital assets.
- Scientific analysis: Review and interpret clinical data and scientific publications to extract insights that inform communication strategy and creative messaging.
- Account ownership: Take responsibility for key accounts, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and alignment across all materials.
- Collaboration: Act as the scientific lead across multidisciplinary teams, fostering collaboration between creative, strategy, and client service functions.
- Research: Conduct literature reviews, data analyses, and background research to support pitches and campaign development.
- Client engagement: Present scientific and creative work confidently in client meetings and provide scientific counsel throughout the project lifecycle.
- Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to junior writers and help build internal scientific expertise.
Skills & Experience
- Advanced degree in a life science discipline (PhD, MSc, or equivalent).
- Proven medical writing experience within a healthcare communications or medical education agency.
- Strong ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, engaging, and strategically relevant communication.
- Demonstrated experience across a wide variety of deliverables and therapy areas.
- Confident in client presentations and discussions, able to build rapport and uncover strategic opportunities.
- Understanding of ABPI guidelines and experience with Veeva Promomats preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail, project ownership, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Collaborative, proactive, and adaptable, thriving in a fast-paced, creative environment.
