HSBC UK Leveraged Finance is a national business consisting of c.100 colleagues, across 16 offices covering c.350+ clients and a diverse range of Private Equity (“PE”) relationships. The business is market leader consisting of four key areas of expertise: Origination, Execution, Financial Sponsor Coverage & Client Coverage. The customer base is varied and can range in size from a turnover of typically £100m to more than £2bn. The team is sector agnostic, but most customers are categorised by their Private Equity (PE) ownership. Lending money to support PE firms with Leveraged Buyouts is often complex in nature and therefore subject to sophisticated financial modelling, structuring, and downside sensitivities.

HSBC UK Leveraged Finance is currently seeking an individual to join them in the Leveraged Finance Coverage team (LFC) in the role of Relationship Director.
The Relationship Director role holder will be responsible for a portfolio of dynamic fast-growing companies under PE ownership who look to their Relationship Director & wider relationship team to support them with their complex business needs through tailor made solutions, whilst ensuring we are treating our customers fairly.
Responsibilities:
- Leading and driving the overall client relationship.
- Conducting credit reviews including credit analysis and the structuring of facilities, ensuring focus is given to credit risk management.
- Tracking the financial performance of the client and ensuring they continue to be able to comply with the terms of the banking facilities provided.
- Supporting key product partners i.e., Global Payment Solutions (GPS), Global Trade & Receivables Finance (GTRF), Private Bank (PB), Global Markets (GM) and the Investment Bank to ensure the needs of our existing customers are met.
- Keeping up to date with developments within specific industries and the economy, using current market intelligence to support robust and interactive client conversations.
- Leading client meetings and supporting the development of and strengthening of mutually beneficial customer relationships.
- Acting as a key member of the wider deal team to ensure transactions are concluded, often within challenging time frames, whilst maintaining compliance with bank procedures.
- Playing an active role in representing Leveraged Finance in the marketplace including attending external events.
Qualifications:
- The ability to influence others and build positive working relationships with customers, business introducers and colleagues is essential.
- Ability to gather, analyse and interpret comprehensive information.
- Strong credit assessment skills, particularly in relation to more complex and structured facilities with an international dimension is essential.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to adapt style and approach is essential.
- Ability to prioritise and manage business tasks – Organised but able to manage the unexpected, escalating where appropriate.
- Able to support others, enabling them to achieve by providing guidance, motivation, and support.
- Experience in managing and delivering commercial relationships, some with international requirements with a track record of effectively identifying and meeting customer needs.
- A high level of business acumen and commercial awareness, including of economic, cultural, procedural, and regulatory issues.
- Have experience of either Leveraged Finance at Relationship Director level or Senior Associate level and looking to take on your first portfolio of clients or be a more experienced Relationship Director looking to get into Leveraged Finance.
- Experience of Private Equity Market would be advantageous.
This role will be based at Queen Victoria Street, London, serving clients in the London area. Hybrid working is available, but it is important that the successful candidate is able to travel to the office and to visit clients in the London region on a regular basis.
