About the Role:

Taylor Woodrow is recruiting a Design Manager to oversee design activities across multiple infrastructure upgrade schemes within our northern regional contracting division. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the Design Manager will ensure the delivery of contractor designs throughout the region.

The projects typically involve city centre regeneration schemes or junction improvements, valued between £2m-£10m, across the Northern region. Current projects include urban realm improvements in Newcastle, Wolverhampton, Birmingham, and work on Manchester Airport Surface Level Car Park and highways improvements.

Key Duties:

Manage permanent works design to deliver cost-effective, compliant contractor designs within set timelines and budgets.
Implement design management procedures to meet ISO 9001 and client requirements for contractor design management.
Draft and periodically revise project-specific Design Management Plans.
Control and track design changes using the Design Manager’s Toolkit.
Facilitate technical coordination between disciplines on site.
Review design deliverables for quality, compliance with client requirements, British Standards, and buildability considerations.
Ensure compliance with CDM regulations related to design.
Oversee safety management functions if required and challenge ongoing designs to mitigate health and safety risks.
Monitor costs and schedules for subcontracted designers and review payment applications.

Person Specification:

Formal qualification in civil engineering or a related field.
Experience managing civil engineering activities in design or contracting environments.
CSCS card.
Chartered status is advantageous but not essential.
