Astute’s Nuclear team is working with a long-established engineering firm known for its precision, innovation, and strong commitment to quality and safety, to recruit an Electrical Controls Engineer based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

Responsibilities and duties of the Electrical Controls Engineer role
- Develop and produce Functional Design Specifications (FDS), System Design Specifications (SDS), and all relevant design documentation.
- Design and program PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems (Siemens experience essential; experience with Mitsubishi and other systems advantageous).
- Design electrical distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), and PLC control systems using AutoCAD.
- Participate in all stages of projects, from concept through to detailed design and completion.
- Attend client and sub-contractor meetings, providing technical expertise to support project delivery.
- Prepare and manage test documentation for FAT/SAT and oversee Factory Acceptance Testing at panel manufacturers’ facilities.
- Contribute to the preparation of estimates, tenders, and design specifications.
- Author O&M manuals and maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in electrical engineering.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
- Engineering qualification to Level 4 or above (HND/Degree or equivalent).
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience as a Controls Engineer.
- Proven design experience in an electrical or controls engineering role, including AutoCAD.
- Strong experience in control panel and MCC design, preferably using Siemens equipment.
- Knowledge of industrial control systems, including electrical distribution, motor control centers, and PLC control panels.
- Experience in a turnkey project environment
