Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit a Specialty Doctor to work in the Histopathology/Cellular Pathology Departments at North Tyneside General Hospital.
The department has full UKAS ISO 15189; 2022 accreditation and handles approximately 23,000 histology requests per year covering a broad range of medical and surgical specialties (excluding neuropathology and renal biopsies). A full range of special stains is available and immunocytochemistry staining is fully automated with a wide range of antibodies available. There are approximately 2,500 non-gynae cases received annually, including fine needle aspirates from most sites and routine brushings and washings from the bronchus, FNA breast, thyroid, pleural, peritoneal washings, bile duct brushings and urine samples.
Responsibilities
- Gradually undertake the full range of pathologist duties involved in the delivery of the histopathology/cytology provision, including opening specimens, cutting up and reporting the range of biopsies and resections (GI, Breast, Gynae, Skin, Urology, lung) as well as non-gynae cytology.
- Begin under supervision and progress to independent levels.
- Support to achieve CESR by rotating to relevant specialties if needed at local neighbouring Trusts.
- Demonstrate an empathetic and sensitive approach to patients’ needs with an ability to show concern for others recognising individual work‑life needs.
- Show highly effective communication skills, influence, negotiate and use power appropriately within the organisation.
- Act as an approachable team member who is inclusive, co‑operative, caring and a good listener who acts appropriately where necessary on what is being said.
- Manage boundaries appropriately within the team, showing loyalty through development of a positive and responsible approach to lessons learned in team errors.
