Applications Engineer – Mill-Turn Specialist Location: UK & Ireland | Travel: Extensive, with regular overnight stays £50,000 to £60,000 per annum The Opportunity A leading CNC machine tool manufacturer is seeking an experienced Applications Engineer specialising in mill-turn machining. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position involving extensive travel throughout the UK and Ireland, providing on-site technical support, process optimisation, and turnkey project delivery. You’ll play a vital role across both pre- and post-sales activities — from demonstrations and time studies to training and technical troubleshooting — ensuring customers achieve the best performance from their CNC equipment. Key Responsibilities Mill-Turn & Process Optimisation Lead the setup, programming, and optimisation of complex mill-turn CNC machines. Develop and refine machining processes for multi-axis components to improve productivity and quality. Customer & Dealer Support Provide on-site technical support and operator training across the UK & Ireland. Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, dealers, and engineering teams. Programming & Turnkey Solutions Create, test, and optimise CNC programs to minimise cycle times and enhance efficiency. Support turnkey projects with accurate time studies and complete manufacturing solutions. Demonstrations & Sales Support Collaborate with the sales team to deliver live machine demonstrations. Prepare precise cycle time estimates to assist customers in investment decisions. Installations & Technical Support Oversee machine installations, ensuring compliance with performance and safety standards. Provide ongoing technical support both remotely and on-site. Training & Events Deliver internal and external training on new technologies and CNC models. Represent the company at exhibitions, trade shows, and dealer events. Skills & Experience Proven experience as an Applications Engineer or CNC Programmer, ideally with mill-turn machinery. Strong knowledge of metal cutting, tooling, and modern machining techniques. Capable of working independently in a mobile role requiring frequent travel. Excellent communication and customer-facing skills with a professional, solution-focused approach. Development & Support Full product and system training provided. Expected to achieve full independence within 6–12 months. Ongoing professional development and regular performance reviews.
