About the Opportunity
mustardjobs is working with a leading name in commercial design & build to find an experienced Senior Pre-Contracts Manager to lead their London-based preconstruction function.
This is a senior-level opportunity for someone who thrives in fast-paced, client-driven environments, with a focus on workplace interiors. You\’ll lead and mentor a growing team of Pre-Con Managers while overseeing a portfolio of high-value projects from inception through to contract signing.
The Role
You’ll take full ownership of the preconstruction phase, collaborating across internal departments and external stakeholders to deliver accurate, compliant, and commercially successful project proposals.
- Key Areas of Responsibility: Team Leadership: Lead and support Pre-Contracts Managers, encouraging collaboration and performance across multiple projects.
- Cost Management: Develop competitive CSAs, evaluate tenders, and oversee value engineering options with a strong eye for detail.
- Contractual Expertise: Prepare and negotiate JCT D&B contracts, LOIs, PCG, PBs and other legal documentation. Liaise with legal advisors as needed.
- Design Oversight: Coordinate with design teams to ensure compliant, buildable, and cost-aligned proposals. Identify and flag design risks early.
- MEP & Technical Coordination: Manage technical consultants and subcontractors, ensuring integrated solutions across MEP, fire, acoustics, and client-direct services.
- Supply Chain Management: Engage and evaluate subcontractors, with a focus on performance, value, and design integration.
- Statutory & Landlord Liaison: Ensure compliance with planning permissions, Building Control, fire strategy, and landlord guides.
- Programme & Risk: Create and manage preconstruction and procurement programmes, identifying key risks early.
- Health & Safety: Prepare documentation for CDM compliance and collaborate with teams to meet client safety obligations.
- Client Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact during tenders, building strong client relationships through confident communication and technical expertise.
- Pitch & Presentation: Contribute to pitch documentation and lead preconstruction presentations, clearly articulating cost and programme strategy.
Who You Are
This role suits a commercially sharp, technically competent leader with a collaborative spirit and a confident presence in front of clients.

- Expertise in preconstruction management across multiple live bids and stages.
- Strong understanding of JCT D&B contracts and commercial risk.
- Familiarity with statutory approvals and landlord coordination.
- Outstanding communication and organisational skills.
- A confident, solutions-focused mindset with a proactive approach.
- Qualifications: Degree or HE qualification in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Or, trade background supported by extensive commercial experience.
