Overview

Post Title: Senior Lecturer in Law; SBU/Department: Hertfordshire Law School; FTE: 1.0fte working 37 hours per week; Duration of Contract: Permanent; Salary: UH8 £46,049 – £58,225 per annum by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience; Annual Leave: 30 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year; Location: De Havilland Campus, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield.

Main duties and responsibilities

Teaching and Programme Development

  • Teach on our LLM BAR modules: Professional Ethics, Trial Advocacy, and Criminal Litigation, Evidence, and Sentencing; assist and support other Module Leaders on the LLM Bar Programme; potentially lead a module yourself.
  • Work co-operatively and supportively as part of the School\’s teaching team, including off-campus student outreach and recruitment activities such as open days where required.
  • Work closely with the Associate Deans, Head of Department, and Programme Leaders to develop the School’s teaching and learning initiatives and ensure the currency and innovative nature of the curriculum.

Research

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the School’s research community and pursue a programme of research to a standard appropriate for consideration under the Research Excellence Framework (REF), including the ability to secure external funding opportunities.

Pastoral Support

  • Contribute to the School’s academic and pastoral care of students and to their learning, personal development and achievement, particularly through acting as a Personal Tutor.

Skills and experience required

  • Teaching experience at postgraduate level in teaching the LLM BAR modules: Professional Ethics, Trial Advocacy, and Criminal Litigation, Evidence, and Sentencing; experience of designing or contributing to the design of engaging and intellectually stimulating modules with professional or industry relevance.
  • Ideally experience of teaching an additional foundation of legal knowledge subject; may have practical, legal, or other professional experience.
  • Ability to use technology to enhance delivery quality and flexibility; promote the activities of the School’s students; proficiency in English language; strong self-management and time management; excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A committed approach towards work within a business-facing University and a commitment to the ongoing development of teaching and learning skills, including growing use of technology in blended learning activities.

Qualifications required

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and Master’s degree in Law or equivalent level professional qualification.
  • PhD or progress toward/consideration of research, professional experience, teaching qualification and/or Fellowship of Advance HE would be highly advantageous.
