Major Recruitment are proud to be recruiting a Multi-Skilled Engineer on behalf of our client in Suffolk, a leading food production business committed to the highest standards of product quality and food safety. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all food safety standards are maintained in line with the latest legislation and industry guidance. This role will suit an experienced engineer with strong electrical and mechanical skills, ideally gained within a food or manufacturing environment. Position Purpose: To support our client in upholding strict food safety standards, maintaining product quality in real time, and ensuring that all legal obligations regarding safe food production are consistently met. The Multi-Skilled Engineer will record daily activities and take proactive steps to ensure equipment reliability and operational efficiency. Benefits: Competitive salary between 43 – 46k Monday to Friday. Shift pattern: a mix of day and late shifts, with some evening cover until 10 pm as needed. Flexible shift arrangements where possible; rotation available if multiple hires are made. 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays. Permanent position. Life insurance – 3 x annual salary. Principal Accountabilities: Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in electrical, mechanical, and control systems. Perform routine maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment. Monitor and optimise production processes to maximise output and minimise downtime. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work and equipment performance. Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to ensure minimal disruption to production. Carry out other general engineering and maintenance duties as required. Additional Information: This job description is not exhaustive and you may be required to undertake other reasonable duties in line with business needs. Flexibility is required to cover some evening shifts (up to 10 pm). The role is typically Monday to Friday, with a mix of day and late shifts. Qualifications & Experience Required: Recognised certification or experience in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. Hands-on experience with PLC systems and automation. Proven knowledge of maintenance and troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, and control systems. Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals. Excellent problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail. Flexibility to work rotating shifts and occasional weekends if needed. Good team player with strong communication skills. Sound understanding of health and safety standards and procedures. Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment (food industry experience is desirable). Food Safety Level 2 or 3. HACCP Level 2 or 3. IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health & safety certification (essential). Allergen Awareness.
