Formula 1 is enjoying a golden era. The demand to participate in Formula 1 is at record high levels across all dimensions β amongst race goers, sponsors, broadcasters and likewise amongst major destination cities and nations vying to host Formula 1 Grand Prix events.
We seek a highly motivated legal counsel to join the Formula 1 Legal team for a role supporting Formula 1βs Race Promotion business. Race Promotion is a key pillar of Formula 1βs business and centres on granting the right to host and promote Formula 1 Grands Prix around the world. The role will involve working closely with the Race Promotion commercial team on various Formula 1 race promotion deal negotiations and ongoing contract and relationship management across the Formula 1 race calendar.
This role will suit a candidate with ideally 1-3 yearsβ post qualification experience. Our new team member will join a team of three lawyers and one paralegal, overseen by a chief counsel, ultimately reporting to the chief legal officer.
Key responsibilities will be as follows:
- drafting and negotiating contracts with our race promoters. These contracts involve a wide variety of legal and commercial matters including event commercialisation (e.g. local sponsorship, hospitality, ticket sales), event operations and delivery (e.g. security, health and safety), insurance, financial security (e.g. guarantees, letters of credit) and interaction with FIA regulations
- drafting licence agreements for use of F1 intellectual property by race promoters
- managing regular ongoing promoter communications (relating to local laws, use of event CCTV, official suppliers, insurance) and assisting with general day to day enquiries from promoters
- providing commercially minded, pragmatic legal advice and support on a range of matters relating to the promotion and organisation of Formula 1 Grand Prix events, including support series such as F2, F3 and F1 Academy
The candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved in matters such as:
- reviewing, negotiating and drafting various ancillary contracts such as NDAs or MOUs regarding initial new race territory discussions
- assisting with other related commercial matters, including providing strategic and practical advice to a variety of Formula 1βs business teams (such as sponsorship, licensing, hospitality and motorsport) regarding Formula 1βs race promotion contracts
- working with our Compliance department on requisite DD for commercial partners and suppliers
- preparing and managing contract summaries and supporting commercial teams in their management of contracts (including acting as Legal team point of contact as required) β’
- supporting the Procurement team in relation to agreements for the provision of goods and services, including reviewing and negotiating F1βs and supplier standard terms and conditions and data processing addendums
- conducting legal research to support business decisions and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
