Job Description
As a Senior Engineer – Building Systems (HVAC) at Heathrow, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of one of the world's busiest and most complex airport environments. You will ensure that HVAC systems meet the highest standards and comply with evolving legislative and environmental requirements. Projects range from large-scale heating and cooling systems and air handling units to advanced ventilation and energy optimisation. Working closely with internal stakeholders and contractors, you will uphold Heathrow's engineering excellence and contribute to a safe, effective and forward-thinking development of our built environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead asset and maintenance strategies of HVAC, Chilled Water, Hot water, heat generation and ventilation systems serving terminals, tunnels and buildings.
- Play a key role supporting decarbonisation of heat and transition to new technologies.
- Identify performance and oversee programs for heat generation, chillers, air conditioning, cooling towers, and related plant.
- Develop and champion energy efficiency initiatives, driving operational excellence.
- Sign off preventive maintenance strategies aligned with asset lifecycle.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers and supporting their development.
- Ensure mechanical asset standards are up to date and reflect Heathrow's requirements.
- Lead technical incident investigations and implement learnings.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 4 years' experience in HVAC or Building Services engineering roles, preferably within design or large-scale infrastructure environments.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with UK bodies like the IMechE or CIBSE.
- Willingness to develop and learn
- Excellent communication skills-able to produce management reports, document maintenance and stake holder management.
Desirable Skills
- Experience of working in a matrix organisation with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Track record in delivering legacy infrastructure upgrades.
- Familiarity with sustainable design and certifications (e.g. BREEAM, CIBSE)

Working Location
Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow. Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You'll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
