Summary of theMaintenance Managerrole

Salary: £65,000 per annum
Job Location: Bedford
Type of Contract: Permanent
Hours: Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:30pm

Responsibilities of the Maintenance Manager

  • Coordinate and allocate shift-based engineering resources.
  • Manage attendance, discipline, and performance data for the engineering team.
  • Deliver and maintain the preventative maintenance programme.
  • Oversee engineering contractors on site, ensuring compliance and quality standards.
  • Ensure the timely completion of reports, logs, and necessary paperwork.
  • Identify and manage critical spare parts, including warehousing, stock control, and reordering systems.
  • Forecast and manage the budget for spare parts, statutory inspections, and condition monitoring.
  • Analyse skills gaps and define development needs within the team.
  • Coach and mentor staff to maximise performance and support career development.

Requirements for a successful Maintenance Manager

  • HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
  • COSHH, SEAR, and PTW trained, with a detailed understanding of safe chemical usage.
  • Proven experience in conducting risk assessments.
  • Strong leadership skills, with a track record of managing teams and contractors.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience in forecasting and budget management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
