Description
We’re looking for a Stores Manager to take ownership of our stores and buying function at our busy Hope Cement Works.
In this key role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing all buying activities, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials. You’ll also lead a team of stores operatives, driving their development and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. A key part of your role will be to review and enhance our processes and procedures, ensuring our stores function operates efficiently and supports a sustainable, high-performing supply chain.
The role is based within our Hope Works Cement plant in the Peak District. As the largest cement manufacturer in the UK, we produce around 1.5 million tonnes of cement annually. With a proud history dating back to 1929, our plant plays a crucial role in the local economy, employing over 200 skilled professionals and utilising local materials to drive sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead procurement activities for Hope Works Cement.
• Manage the purchasing and stores team, ensuring compliance with audit and operational standards.
• Oversee stores operations and support major site shutdowns by coordinating timely delivery of goods and services.
• Support minor capex projects and collaborate with category teams on major investments.
• Drive procurement excellence through policy development, process improvement, and stakeholder engagement.
• Promote sustainability, ethical sourcing, and innovation across the supply base.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and overall business strategy.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Ability to lead, motivate, and support a team of stores operatives to achieve operational goals.
- Skilled in developing team members through regular feedback, training, and performance reviews.
- Clear and confident communicator, able to convey expectations, provide direction, and foster open dialogue.
- Procurement experience in a heavy engineering or manufacturing environment; cement industry knowledge is a plus.
- Strong track record of delivering value and setting clear targets in complex operational settings.
- Solid understanding of inventory management and engineering stores operations; Maximo experience is advantageous.
- Skilled negotiator with strong commercial acumen and supplier management expertise.
- Passionate about sustainability and ethical sourcing within the supply chain.
- UK Driving Licence and the ability to travel if required.
