This is an excellent opportunity for a Photometry Engineer with hands-on experience in optical measurements and lighting validation to join a leading automotive organisation. You will play a key role in measuring, analysing, and reporting on the performance of lighting systems—both in-vehicle and in lab environments—supporting the development of high-quality automotive lighting technology.

You will be responsible for conducting accurate lighting measurements using advanced equipment such as spectrometers, imaging colorimeters, and goniometers. Your work will directly inform component validation, design optimisation, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards. The role requires close collaboration with electrical and design engineers, external suppliers, and feature owners across multiple lighting domains.

This role suits a detail-oriented Photometry Engineer who can manage multiple measurement requests, uphold calibration standards, and clearly communicate complex technical findings. Strong organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously in a lab environment are essential.

Key Responsibilities of the Photometry Engineer:

  • Perform photometric measurements of lighting components including headlamps, tail lamps, switch packs, interior lights, and ambient lighting systems (both in-lab and in-vehicle).
  • Manage measurement requests, including requirements verification and scheduling.
  • Analyse measurement data and produce detailed, accurate, and professional test reports.
  • Calibrate and maintain test equipment, ensuring measurement reliability and audit readiness.
  • Maintain and develop dark room and light tunnel facilities.
  • Support validation activities and ensure compliance with specification requirements.
  • Liaise with engineering, quality, design, and purchasing teams to ensure cross-functional collaboration and issue resolution.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in photometric and optical measurement techniques using spectrometers, goniometers, and imaging colorimeters.
  • Strong background in measuring lighting components such as lamps, switch packs, ambient lighting, and display illumination.
  • Skilled in writing clear, detailed technical reports and summarising data for stakeholders.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Familiarity with vehicle network protocols such as CAN and LIN.
  • Knowledge of electrical system integration in automotive environments.
  • Comfortable working with CAD teams and understanding component design intent.

Qualifications:

  • HND or higher in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Evidence of successful photometry and physical component validation experience.

This contract offers a unique opportunity for a highly capable Photometry Engineer to contribute to cutting-edge automotive lighting development within a world-class engineering environment. If you\’re a Photometry Engineer passionate about precision, measurement, and engineering excellence, we encourage you to apply.
