Salary: £78,400 – £117,600 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + benefits supporting your finances, wellbeing, and family.

The role
Network Engineering is a core function within the Asset Management & Operations Directorate at SSEN-Transmission. It is responsible for ensuring suitable engineering specifications and guidance for all Transmission projects and assets, ensuring safe, reliable operation in compliance with legislation. Our purpose is to keep engineering safe, sound, and supported.
We seek a passionate technical leader with extensive experience in designing, constructing, and operating Flexible AC Transmission System solutions (including STATCOM, SVC, SSSC, UPFC). You will establish and lead across multiple functions in developing specifications for FACTS devices and overseeing related projects.
You will
- Build and manage a new FACTS Devices Engineering Team, handling workload, recruitment, and line management.
- Facilitate design reviews as the Design Authority for FACTS, providing SME input to ensure project suitability and scope adjustments.
- Develop, maintain, and review technical specifications and guidance notes for FACTS Devices, updating based on lessons learned and technological advances. Provide technical support within your discipline.
- Act as Technical Authority for FACTS, reviewing test plans, testing adequacy, and supplier approvals.
- Represent SSEN Transmission at industry events (ENA, IEC, CIGRE) and conferences.
- Drive innovation and implement value-adding solutions.
You have
- A relevant Engineering degree, Chartered Engineer status (or working towards), and membership with a recognized institution.
- Experience managing a team of subject-matter experts and serving as a Design and Technical Authority.
- Expertise in the design, construction, and installation of FACTS Devices.
- Ability to assess substation design issues and a thorough understanding of electrical substation operation and maintenance standards.
- Knowledge of international standards and experience in writing technical specifications and guidance notes.
