Job Title: Site Reliability Engineer (OpenShift)
Location: Wokingham
Type: Contract 6-12 Months
About the Role
Are you a hands-on engineer passionate about platform stability, automation, and real-world impact? We\’re looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with strong experience in OpenShift to join a collaborative engineering function that powers critical applications across the organisation.
This is a strategic technical role sitting at the core of platform engineering. You’ll blend development expertise with infrastructure awareness, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance of complex systems. You’ll act as a key escalation point for platform issues, drive observability, and embed resilience by design. If you thrive in environments where uptime is just the baseline — and engineering elegance is the goal — this could be your next step.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Manage, monitor, and improve distributed applications running in OpenShift environments.
- Build and evolve monitoring, alerting, and logging pipelines to catch issues before users do.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for production incidents, leading resolution and post-incident analysis.
- Codify reliability by building automation, runbooks, and tooling that reduce manual intervention.
- Collaborate with development teams to enhance DevEx, provide input on architecture, and embed reliability into the release process.
- Participate in infrastructure capacity planning, forecasting future demand, and ensuring systems scale appropriately.
- Support change management workflows and maintain platform health during releases and deployments.
- Lead or contribute to platform projects, disaster recovery exercises, and infrastructure upgrades.
Tech You\’ll Be Working With
Experience in some of the following areas is beneficial (you don’t need them all):
- OpenShift , Kubernetes, or container orchestration systems
- Programming/Scripting in Python , Bash , C# , or Java
- Linux and/or Windows internals
- Version control systems (Git)
- Load balancers, reverse proxies, and SSL management (IIS, nginx, Azure App Gateway)
What You’ll Bring
- A strong engineering mindset, with experience in both development and operations.
- Solid understanding of cloud-native infrastructure and systems-level thinking.
- Experience managing or maintaining OpenShift or similar container platforms in production.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a desire to automate everything.
- Experience working in high-availability, high-scale environments with a focus on performance and resilience.
Why This Role?
- Join a high-impact team trusted with the reliability of mission-critical platforms.
- Work on technically complex problems with autonomy and support.
- Help define the SRE function and drive cultural change across engineering and operations.
- Collaborate across product, infrastructure, and software to shape how applications are built and run.
