We are seeking a technically adeptApplication Engineer to join our Business Systems team in the Technology department. You will be part of a cross-functional team of engineers who are responsible for the configuration, development, implementation, security and support of the firm’s business-critical applications.
You will act as a principal technical product owner and subject matter expert for any AI technologies the firm engages with, including Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI Foundry and Agentic AI. You will help the firm unlock productivity benefits through the use of AI and help to promote and support the use of AI across the firm.
You will act as a secondary technical product owner and subject matter expert for SharePoint and OneDrive. You will work with other applications as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES //
The key responsibilities of this role are set out below and there may be others which are not listed. You may be required on occasion to work outside our normal working hours of 9:30am to 5:30pm.
Application Management and Development
- Manage the configuration, deployment, and ongoing support of Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, AI agents and other AI tools and applications.
- Serve as the firm’s technical lead for Agentic AI, guiding the design of autonomous AI workflows across platforms.
- Maintain relevant access, licensing, security policies and usage controls using Microsoft 365 Admin Centre, Azure AD/Entra and other tools.
- Monitor usage and performance, proactively addressing issues and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into practical application changes or enhancements.
- Maintain documentation related to application change control and configuration, processes and procedures.
Technical Expertise and Product Ownership
- Serve as a primary subject matter expert (SME) for AI applications, providing deep knowledge and proactive support.
- Develop, test and optimise reusable AI components such as prompts and prompt chains to support use cases within the firm. Establish a prompt library for firm-wide use.
- Serve as a secondary subject matter expert for SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams and the use of AI within the Microsoft 365 applications.
- Own the technical direction of the applications you are responsible for, ensuring alignment with the Technology roadmap, business strategy and user needs. Stay informed of product updates, upgrades, and roadmap developments, ensuring optimal use of the software.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, escalating to third-line support or vendors where necessary.
- Maintain and prioritise the product backlog, including new features, upgrades, maintenance tasks and defect resolution.
- Participate in or lead agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, backlog refinement and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with internal teams to evaluate and approve technical design decisions, architectural changes and security implications.
Stakeholder and Vendor Engagement
- Act as the primary liaison between internal users, procurement, support teams, engagement and software vendors for the applications you are responsible for.
- Engage regularly with application stakeholders and users to ensure they are informed of progress and change, and to monitor and improve user experience.
- Manage vendor relationships, including coordinating support cases, overseeing service levels, and negotiating enhancements or customisations.
- Work closely with the internal Problem Management team.
Cybersecurity and Risk
- Ensure applications comply with internal and external security policies and best practices.
- Implement controls to safeguard application data, access, and integration points.
- Participate in audits, risk assessments, and business continuity planning as it relates to the applications you are responsible for.
CANDIDATE PROFILE //
Candidates for this position must have:
- Strong hands-on experience of the Microsoft AI stack, including Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft Graph API and Copilot within Microsoft 365 applications.
- Experience developing Copilot agents, crafting high-quality prompts and working with Agentic AI models.
- Good knowledge of the administration of SharePoint and OneDrive.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, training and documentation skills, including the ability to communicate well with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Enjoy working as part of a close-knit team.
- Willingness to be flexible, learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities.
- Experience of AI applications outside the Microsoft AI stack.
- Experience in the legal sector or a similar highly regulated environment.
- Exposure to agile or iterative delivery methodologies.
- Familiarity with Purview, sensitivity labels and data governance principles.
- Familiarity with Dynamics CRM, Power Platform and iManage products.
- Familiarity with legal sector compliance and IT security standards (e.g. GDPR, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus).
- Azure AD/Entra and role-based access control experience.
