A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A COMMIS CHEF AT THE MET HOTEL, LEEDS
As our Commis Chef, you won’t just support the kitchen, you’ll be part of the heartbeat that keeps it running. Working closely with our senior chefs, you’ll prep, plate, and bring ideas to life in a space where creativity thrives. Every day brings something new, and you’ll have the chance to grow your skills while helping serve up bold, memorable dishes across all areas of the hotel, from vibrant breakfasts to indulgent dinners and playful event menus.
Here’s What You’ll Be Up To
- Prepare fresh ingredients to support daily service across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and events, from peeling and chopping to sauces and garnishes
- Assist chefs during service, ensuring each dish is delivered with care, consistency, and attention to detail
- Keep the kitchen clean, safe, and organised. You’ll take pride in maintaining high hygiene standards and following health and safety guidelines
- Rotate stock, label ingredients, and make sure everything is ready when the heat’s on, because great food starts with great prep
- Learn from senior chefs and soak up knowledge every shift, supporting the team across all areas of the kitchen
- Embrace every service whether it’s helping to plate up a wedding meal or prepping the next big breakfast spread
- Bring energy and enthusiasm to every task, because attitude matters just as much as ability
What We Need From You
We hire mostly on personality & potential but here are a few of our requirements:
- A genuine passion for food and a desire to build a culinary career in a fast‑paced, creative kitchen
- Some experience in a similar kitchen environment or professional training is ideal, but we’ll provide support and development for the right person
- Willingness to learn and get stuck in, you’re eager to support your team and grow your skills
- A strong eye for detail, with a commitment to consistency, cleanliness, and presentation
- Confidence to follow instructions, ask questions, and work as part of a team
- A flexible, reliable approach and the ability to stay calm under pressure
