Overview
Further Information: A confident and patient Personal Assistant is required to join a team of PAs supporting a disabled young man in the HU9 area of the city. He has autism, ADHD, OCD and experiences communication difficulties. He is unable to communicate verbally and uses non-verbal communication; PAs will need to encourage him to use his Now and Next Cards and PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System). Personal care is involved. Full training and support will be given.
Responsibilities
- Provide personal care and support to the young man in daily activities as required.
- Support non-verbal communication using Now and Next Cards and PECS.
- Encourage the individual to get out and engage in activities outside the home; accompany him on outings to the beach, parks (East Park), lunch, swimming, etc.
- Assist with indoor activities such as sensory play, early learning, jigsaws and other play activities.
- Drive the mobility car as required.
Location, Rate & Hours
Location: HU9 area
Rate of pay: £12.21
Hours: 16–32 hours per week (negotiable at interview)
Requirements / Qualifications
- Experience supporting someone with autism, ADHD, OCD; ability to use PECS and non-verbal communication strategies.
- Full driving licence and own transport or ability to drive the mobility car.
- Patience, confidence, and ability to work as part of a small team.
