What does a Lead Localisation Manager do at Busuu?
We are seeking a localisation expert to lead Busuu\’s localisation function. You will play a pivotal role to create a genuinely localised experience for our global learners, enabling them to engage with content that is both relevant and authentic.
You will be working within the wider marketing team and in close collaboration with our education and product colleagues to manage the localisation processes at Busuu. You will be instrumental in leading the localisation team to deliver impactful campaigns across our marketing channels and an engaging product experience across different languages and geographies.
The Lead Localisation Manager will be responsible for championing the importance of the localisation function within the business and developing processes that ensure the translation and adaptation of our content is supporting business goals and serving our mission to empower people through languages.

What you will be doing as a Lead Localisation Manager

Lead and inspire the localisation team, providing line management and development for our in-house localisation managers

Manage and nurture relationships with key suppliers, including freelance linguists, localisation agencies and localisation tool providers

Manage the localisation budget and forecasting, and support business cases and cost estimates for new interface languages or courses

Work closely with the rest of the business to understand and drive OKRs by providing localisation solutions with demonstrable impact, including through savings and efficient use of tools and processes

Oversee the localisation team’s workload, working with the rest of the business to ensure localisation work focuses on projects that deliver impact against wider goals

Be commercially-minded in your execution, including by initiating tests and hypotheses on how to optimise the impact of localisation on campaign results and using tools (such as AI) to enable the team and accelerate results

Work closely with the Creative Strategy Director to ensure the localisation briefing and feedback process is running smoothly for both the localisation team and internal stakeholders

Lead occasional cross-team sessions to socialise the importance and impact of localisation, and work closely across the business to ensure early involvement of the localisation team in new product development or marketing initiatives

Work closely with the Lead Copywriter to ensure seamless processes and consistency of brand and TOV across markets and languages

Occasionally supporting with BAU work on day-to-day localisation tasks, including responding to briefs, providing QA services to stakeholders in the business, and ensuring there is appropriate resourcing in place to support specific campaigns or launches
What we’re looking for in a Lead Localisation Manager

5+ years experience leading localisation teams and processes, experience in a tech or product-led environment a plus

You will be a confident project manager, with proven experience managing resources, timelines and quality assurance

A seasoned team leader with experience managing and mentoring people

You will demonstrate a solid understanding of the localisation industry, strategies and processes, and knowledge of how to apply them in a multicultural business, working across different departments and bringing people with you on the importance of cultural and linguistic nuances

Strategic and focused on the bigger picture, with a desire to understand the business needs and how localisation can support in driving impact and meeting wider goals

Demonstrable experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders to deliver value for the business – understand and navigate the challenges of internal teams and see opportunities for collaboration and growth within the business

Cultural sensitivity and strong linguistic skills, with an ability to communicate nuances and impact of accurately translating, transcreating and adapting assets for a diverse audience

Commercial acumen and a keen interest in staying up to date with the changes in the marketplace and the competitive landscape of language learning

Well versed in using translation management systems and integrating them with other tools (Smartling experience a plus)

Experience using Jira or another scrum-based ticketing system to manage workflow

Excellent communication, persuasion and presentation skills

Passion for language education and digital learning is always a plus

Experience with testing to validate and drive results is a plus
