Sessional Advanced Professional (Approved Mental Health Professional)

Wirral Council is looking for an Advanced Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our Emergency Duty Team (EDT) on a casual basis. The role involves providing high‑quality, out‑of‑hours support and interventions to vulnerable adults, children and families, and applying legal and professional knowledge to achieve positive outcomes. Key Responsibilities

  • First point of contact for professionals, vulnerable adults, children, families or members of the public during out‑of‑hours periods.
  • Apply safeguarding knowledge and risk assessment skills to support and challenge colleagues across agencies.
  • Carry out high‑quality crisis‑led assessments and record accurate, reflective electronic reports.
  • Work alongside colleagues on a rotating shift pattern, including some weekends and bank holidays.

About the Candidate

  • Qualified AMHP or experienced social worker with a passion for safeguarding and risk assessment.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing demands and work under pressure without on‑site line‑manager support.
  • Strong decision‑making skills and confidence in providing advice, guidance and challenge to colleagues within Social Care and across agencies.

Shifts

  • Mon – Friday 5:00pm – 9:00am
  • Weekends 8:30am – 5:30pm or 5:00pm – 9:00am
