Tesco’s Retail Media team is redefining how brands engage with customers by combining rich data, digital innovation, and customer-centric thinking. As aUser Research Manager , you will sit at the intersection of customer experience and advertiser success—ensuring that both audiences are deeply understood and thoughtfully represented in our product development.
In this role, you’ll lead research efforts across our B2B self-serve platform, which enables advertisers to plan, book, and manage their campaigns with ease and efficiency. At the same time, you’ll advocate for the end customer, ensuring that the advertising experience remains relevant, respectful, and value-driven. Your insights will directly influence product strategy, design decisions, and the overall effectiveness of our retail media offerings—helping Tesco deliver better outcomes for shoppers and brands alike.
What you’ll be working on
You’ll be leading a team of User Researchers working across a portfolio of products to ensure our organisation understands who our users are – their behaviours, motivations and needs to enable impactful design decisions.
You will provide guidance, mentorship, and support ensuring the team\’s success in developing insights and creating impactful user experiences.
Experienced in ResearchOps you will scale quantitative and qualitative research practices across product delivery and advocate for the importance of user-centered design within the organisation, educating stakeholders on its value in delivering a positive user experience and sharing best practices.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead and inspire a high-performing user research team working across the experience ecosystem.
  • Develop and implement effective research strategies aligning research efforts with organisational goals, identifying research priorities, selecting appropriate methodologies based on needs.
  • Manage research projects including planning, budgeting, recruiting participants, conducting research sessions and data analysis.
  • Democratize research data and insights across the organisation.
  • Own and evolve personas as strategic artefacts.
  • Communicate research insights to stakeholders in a way that is actionable and impactful.
  • Measure, monitor and manage customer satisfaction and usability of the product experience.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and development opportunities to team members.
  • Foster a creative and innovative work environment.
  • Drive continuous improvement on team processes aiding collaboration and workflow efficiency.
  • Champion the value of user research, advocating for and educating stakeholders on the importance of research in informing design decisions and driving business success.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate fresh ideas into research and design practices.
  • Evaluate and implement tools and technologies that enhance the user research process.
  • Ensure ethical and responsible management of user data in research activities (e.g. privacy, consent, data security)

What we expect from you

  • Preferably a degree in Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, Social Science, or a related field.
  • Seasoned experience in user research or UX design field.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience building and leading research or design teams.
  • Proven success leading user research or service design for shipped products.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles.
  • Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and incorporating user feedback into the design process.
  • Ability to articulate design decisions and strategies to both design and non-design stakeholders.
  • Ability to think strategically about design in the context of business goals and company strategy.
  • Understanding of business metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Working with iterative, agile delivery methodologies.
  • Experience in bridging communication gaps between design and other departments.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard design tools and technologies.
  • Managing vendors and defining statements of work.
