Job purpose: Effective timely technical support between operations and engineering relating to all new and existing products. Providing process and manufacturing engineering expertise into new and existing customer parts and processing/manufacturing methods, ensuring smooth transition to full manufacture. Key Responsibilities: (Key Tasks) The design of fixtures, sourcing tooling and producing stage drawings, SOP’s, training manuals and operation procedures. Creation of engineering documentation and bills of materials using 3D Solidworks and 2D AutoCAD. Ensure all pre-production activities, including creation of stage drawings, bills and routes, writing of machine programs, identification of tooling requirements, and the design of fixtures, are completed effectively and in a timely manner to support production plans. Participate in feasibility reviews for new parts to evaluate and determine manufacturing methods required and ensure that any exceptions or design changes that will be required prior to quotation and sign off. Drive improvements in production processes using continuous improvement methodology whilst developing methods and processes. Deliver technical training to production operators to develop their skills and capabilities and increase product and process knowledge team working. Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors. Improves manufacturing efficiency by analysing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment layout. Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labour and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements. Provide design input on all projects as required within the timescales set by the company. Ensure the suitability of the engineering aspects of company products for their function. Prompt replies to production, logistical and technical support questions. Internal/External interaction: * Production and Logistics departments * Project Management * Technical Support department * Engineering department Education/Qualifications (essential): * HND/degree in a suitable engineering/manufacturing discipline Key Skills/Technical Competencies (essential): Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques, anodising, welding, heat treatment, painting, additive, machining, cutting, folding and NDT requirements. Assembly methods and maintenance. CAD drawing creation, GDT, BOM’s and material science. Inspection, testing and certification requirements. Safety conscious, attentive to QHSE policies and regulations (ISO 9001 QA systems). Cost consciousness. Active champion of lean thinking and improvement projects. Confident negotiator and influencer. To be willing to think through problems and suggest imaginative approaches to solutions. Flexibility, adaptability and professionalism, with the ability to work cooperatively as part of a multidiscipline team or individually on projects. Time management with ability to plan work loadings, multi-task and work under pressure. Good verbal and written communication skills, clear technical writing and good record keeping. Attention to detail and effective checking regime. Software skills: Microsoft Office Suite. Software skills: 2D and 3D CAD (e.g. AutoCAD/DraftSight and SolidWorks). Key Skills/Technical Competencies (desirable): * Structural analysis, scoping calculations and hand calculations. * Mechanisms, kinematics and power transmission. * Hydraulics including sealing systems e.g. O-rings, seals, hydraulic fittings etc. Ability to understand and apply commercially sensible financial decisions in the context of production and design. To think in terms of costs, profits and sales. Industrial Experience (essential): * 5 years minimum experience in engineering and manufacturing environment. Administrative (essential): * Ensure compliance with all company systems and procedures. QHSE Competencies: * Maintain behaviour in compliance with HSE requirements. * Maintain responsibility and accountability through personal commitment and behaviour. 37 hours per week – 8.30am to 4.30pm Mon-Thurs and 8.30am to 4pm Friday.
