Meet the team behind this journey
You will join the Convert And Scale track, a set of teams focused on the scalability of Deepl\’s business model. The focus is on enabling customers to manage their accounts and subscriptions from a single licence to large enterprises with thousands of users. This requires maintaining a software landscape that owns the identity and access management, subscriptions & billing, conversion, retention optimisation and reconciliation with our financial systems. We support this infrastructure for current and future use cases for our existing products, with the aim of anticipating and accelerating the company\’s revenue growth expectations through technology.

What will you be doing at DeepL
As a Staff Engineer, you will be instrumental in driving cross-functional projects within the Convert and Scale organisation, collaborating closely with engineering teams and product managers. In this role, you will help shape the architectural direction of systems that underpin our account, subscription, and enterprise capabilities. Your focus will be on ensuring that our solutions are scalable, reliable, and available while adhering to the security best practices.
Additionally, you will work with engineering leadership and other principal/staff engineers to align our technical strategy with business objectives, ensuring that our initiatives support the overall vision of DeepL.
Your Responsibilities

Drive the architecture of our business systems across teams, system owners and engineers.

Provide guidance on the architecture and its components through the commissioning and decommissioning of all services involved.

Ownership of revenue data management: Data architecture, governance, data protection, etc.

Provide hands-on technical leadership and drive projects with a size and scope of 2-3 teams

Helping teams plan and estimate activities

Mentor, develop and coach other senior software engineers, engineering managers and business leaders.

Experience initiating and driving technical projects involving collaboration with multiple teams

10+ years of hands-on technical experience as an engineer, with a strong focus on business logic-intensive environments

Demonstrated ability to influence and mentor teams and individuals across multiple teams or larger organizational structures

Proactive and proficient in stakeholder communication in English, ensuring clear and effective interactions

Experience with a wide range of observability practices (SLOs, Dashboards, Alertis,..) for business critical systems

Experience with Domain Driven Design (DDD) is a plus
