This Project Management Apprentice role, known internally as Associate Project Manager , forms part of System C’s structured career pathway and is an ideal entry-level opportunity for an aspiring Project Manager. Delivered in conjunction with a Level 4 Project Management apprenticeship over a 2-year programme, this role provides a supported development route into full project delivery within our BadgerNet Maternity team.
The role will support Project Managers and Portfolio Manager in coordinating the delivery of digital maternity solutions to NHS clients. It will involve learning how to scope, plan, deliver and review projects in a structured environment, gaining hands-on experience while applying academic learning in real-world scenarios.
This role underpins our commitment to growing future talent, providing a clear path to progress into a qualified Project Manager position upon successful completion of the programme.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers and the Portfolio Manager in the coordination and administration of implementation projects.
- Support the preparation of project documentation, including project plans, risk registers, reports and meeting minutes.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including clinicians and NHS Trust project teams, to help gather requirements and ensure project visibility.
- Learn how to manage project timelines, resource tracking, and task assignments through structured mentorship.
- Attend and contribute to project calls, workshops, and training sessions with clients and internal teams.
- Provide updates to internal stakeholders on project progress and escalate issues appropriately.
- Shadow experienced Project Managers and gradually take on low-risk project components, with increasing responsibility over time.
- Ensure all project documentation is maintained in line with System C governance frameworks.
- Commit to all requirements of the apprenticeship programme including workshops, coursework, and assessment milestones.
Required Education & Qualifications
- GCSEs (including English and Maths) or equivalent are required.
- Must meet eligibility criteria for a Level 4 Project Management apprenticeship (e.g. no prior equivalent qualifications).
- A demonstrable interest in digital transformation, technology, or healthcare delivery is essential.
Technical Experience (Desirable)
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Awareness of project delivery or administration (e.g. during studies, part-time work, voluntary roles).
Skills Required
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to balance learning and project tasks effectively.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills suitable for varied stakeholders.
- A proactive and curious mindset, with a desire to learn and contribute to project success.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
- Confidence to engage with stakeholders while building professionalism and credibility.
Apprenticeship Details
- Qualification: Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship (with APM certification).
- Duration: 18-24 months.
- Training: Provided by a System C and apprenticeship approved learning provider.
- Support: You’ll receive mentoring and regular performance reviews throughout your apprenticeship.
