Job Summary
The Senior Hardware Designer is fully competent in Digital and Analog Hardware design and typically fills the role of Hardware Technical Lead on a project team.
The Senior Hardware Designer is expected to complete design, prototyping, research and basic testing of new or existing hardware projects with a minimum of supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Hardware Designer will:
- Develop hardware projects including the design, planning and scheduling in accordance with established procedures and guidelines as described in the Product Development Process.
Research and Design
- Explore and research new technologies that align with product direction.
- Support technical evaluations of proposed designs as needed.
- Help gather and document product requirements.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to help build out project schedules.
- Identify potential project risks and suggest mitigation strategies.
- Contribute to cost assessments for current and proposed designs.
- Generate accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) for various product versions.
- Develop schematic and circuit board layouts.
- Coordinate with the mechanical design team to ensure design alignment.
- Account for system power needs and thermal performance in all designs.
- Ensure component selection follows established standards and guidelines.
Quality and Testing
- Perform preliminary product testing.
- Create a test plan for any new product designs.
- Assist in the creation of quality test procedures for new product designs and existing products.
- Ensure all design and implementations are reviewed by another qualified hardware designer or QA hardware specialist.
- Review other hardware designer’s work against requirements and quality standards.
- Analyze product failures or issues and contribute to the resolution of these issues.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Proven expertise in both analog and digital circuit design.
- Solid understanding in printed circuit board (PCB) design and layout.
- Skilled in technical communication, including documentation and design reporting.
- Effective at managing time and priorities across multiple concurrent projects.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively in team environments.
- Proficiency in EDA tools; experience with Altium Designer is considered an asset.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-functional communication skills.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Two year Technology Diploma in Electronics
- 8+ years of experience in electrical hardware design

Compensation: $75,000 – $98,000
This range reflects the minimum and maximum target payable for the base salary of new hires across all Canadian locations. Actual compensation may vary outside this range and is dependent on various factors.
