Role: The Grants & Compliance Director will work within the Operations team to process outgoing and incoming grants, help ensure organisational compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and support various risk management functions, like cybersecurity. This role is in-person, based in London. Note that depending on the candidate’s experience, we may offer this role at the Manager or Associate-level instead.

Grants are central to Longview’s mission of reducing risks from global challenges (such as AI and nuclear weapons) through high impact philanthropy. We make grants to world-leading experts and organisations making progress and pursuing solutions in these critical areas. The Grants & Compliance Director will process millions of dollars of grants annually, ensuring grantees have the resources they need to continue their important work.
Compliance underpins everything we do at Longview. The Grants & Compliance Director will work to mitigate regulatory risks, meet legal requirements, and thereby enable the organisation as a whole to continue its activities in pursuit of impact.

Responsibilities
General
The Grants & Compliance Director will maintain and improve our grants processing systems, including processing the receipt and disbursement of millions of dollars worth of grants annually. They will help the organisation meet its legal and regulatory requirements, with a particular focus on Longview’s UK entity/ies. They will support various risk management activities, including e.g. cybersecurity and insurance. They will report to Andrew Player, our Head of Grants Management & Compliance.
- Grants management
- Process outgoing grants to Longview’s grant recipients
- Ensure all grants conform to our Grantmaking Policy and meet legal requirements
- Ensure adequate grantee reporting
- Facilitate incoming grants to Longview itself
- Manage and improve grants tracking systems
- Compliance
- Work with our accountant to prepare and review our UK financial statements
- Fulfil UK statutory reporting requirements for our UK entity
- Ensure our UK entity’s board meets its compliance requirements
- Implement UK compliance policies across the organisation
- Lead on forming and implementing our cybersecurity plan
- Lead on reviewing and managing our insurance covers
- Support on our due diligence processes on external stakeholders
- Support our overall risk management process
Outcomes
- Within three months of starting:
- Autonomously process grants from our US and UK entities to charitable grantees;
- Manage and start improving grants tracking systems;
- Understand and start to prepare UK statutory filings;
- Create a plan for managing organisational cybersecurity; and
- Review and evaluate organisational insurance coverages.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:
Essential Skills, Abilities, and Attributes
Experience
- At least 3 years’ experience in nonprofit operations roles; and
- Experience in nonprofit legal compliance and/or grants management.
Abilities and Attributes
- Familiarity with the UK nonprofit legal and regulatory context;
- Familiarity with grants management processes at a charity or foundation, ideally in the UK;
- Interest in systems improvements: ability to continually assess and improve systems to increase efficiency of our processes;
- Excellent communication skills: the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and high-stakes external stakeholders; and
- Outstanding attention to detail: ability to execute on high-stakes tasks (e.g. multi-million dollar transfers) without error.
Desired Skills, Abilities, and Attributes
- Familiarity with US nonprofit legal and regulatory context;
- Familiarity with multi-entity organisational structures;
- Familiarity with Longview’s cause areas; and
- Solid spreadsheet skills, especially with Google Sheets and/or Airtable.
Salary, Benefits and Location
- This position is full-time, based in London.
- We may be able to sponsor UK work visas for this position.
- Salary of £65,000 – 85,000 p.a. dependent on experience and skills.

- We also have flexible working hours and team members occasionally work from home.
- We typically work regular hours (~9am-6pm).
- Second stage: First round screening interview
- Third stage: Paid 4-hour work task
- We will pay candidates £50/hr for completing this stage.
- Fourth stage: interview (1 hour) & reference checks
- We will conduct interviews on a rolling basis starting the week of January 20th, 2025.
