Reporting to the Hardware Development Manager, the Hardware Development Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing electronics and machine vision systems for prototyping and production of sorting machines.

Tasks/Responsibilities

  • Conducting feasibility studies and evaluation of ideas to produce design specifications for machines or parts of machines that meet agreed functional requirements.
  • Designing and developing both analog and digital circuit modules for specific functions; liaise with other design engineers to integrate these modules into systems that meet specified requirements and within agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Utilising PCB schematics capture and PCB layout design using tools such as Altium Designer and Mentor Xpedition.
  • Undertaking FPGA design and System on Chip (SoC) design, specifically with Xilinx and Lattice technologies; experience in microcontroller design is desirable.
  • Implementing and verifying electronic circuit modules to ensure they meet agreed design specifications and internal quality standards.
  • Introducing innovative and elegant solutions to improve the quality and reliability of circuit modules and machine systems.
  • Conducting cost-benefit analysis of new components and design ideas to ensure cost-effective solutions; source and recommend new parts as necessary.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation on all aspects of new components or modifications, including specifications, assembly procedures, test procedures, and operational instructions.
  • Undertaking performance evaluations of existing machines when problems arise, recommending or initiating modifications to resolve issues.
  • Providing technical support across departments to address problems encountered in new and existing designs.
  • Engaging in interdisciplinary interaction with mechanical and electrical aspects of design, ensuring cohesive and integrated solutions.
  • Bringing innovative ideas and cooperating with multicultural teams across global sites.
  • Providing practical and technical expertise with extensive use of lab equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • You will ideally have a bachelor’s degree in electronics or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience in hardware development within an organisation that develops and brings products to market.
  • PCB layout experience.
  • Component and system fault finding experience.
  • Safety certification experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EMC testing and approvals experience.
