Job Description

As the General Manager, you’ll step into a pivotal role, steering Berger Tools through this exciting new phase. With the backing of Otto Ganter GmbH & Co. KG, a world leader in standardised machine elements, you’ll have the unique opportunity to shape the future of the organisation, expand market reach, and drive strategic synergies.

Further responsibilities include:

  1. Leading and coordinating a team of currently 15 employees.
  2. Promoting the Berger Tool/Ganter Norm and products in the UK, through different channels (exhibitions, Internet, magazines, etc.) in coordination with the parent company.
  3. Managing and developing relationships with existing customers.
  4. Driving growth through acquiring new customers by developing different sales channels.
  5. Visiting and consulting customers on their needs.
  6. Forecasting accurately in line with company objectives and achieving sales targets.
  7. Working closely with the parent company to collaboratively work on growth strategies in the UK.
  8. Dealing with administrative issues and being a local key contact to auditors, lawyers, and tax advisors.
  9. Working on the wider operational aspects of the role to ensure a smooth running of business operations.

The Successful Applicant

The successful General Manager will:

  1. Have demonstrable experience in leading a small team and preferably wider business operations.
  2. Alternatively, a candidate with a strong technical background that would like to develop into a more commercial role would also be possible.
  3. Ideally have a commercial background in either manufacturing, machinery, tooling or components.
  4. Lead from the front in driving sales opportunities, as well as being a mentor and coach to your direct reports.
  5. Be a self-starter, determined and ambitious individual with a keen eye for detail and analytical approach.
  6. Be commercially astute and able to plan and prioritise effectively and efficiently.
  7. Strong strategic vision with a focus on driving growth and operational efficiency.
  8. Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills to foster collaboration across teams and stakeholders.
  9. A results-oriented mindset with a knack for identifying opportunities and delivering innovative solutions.
  10. Be able to travel regularly to the head office in Sevenoaks.
