What Youll Do
As a Proposals (Applications) Engineer within the Power Group, you will take ownership of client technical enquiries and transform them into tailored, fully costed engineering proposals. Your work will ensure accuracy, value, and alignment with both customer needs and internal engineering standards.
Technical Assessment and Feasibility
- Analyse client specifications, datasheets, and RFQs to determine technical requirements.
- Evaluate feasibility of proposed solutions based on engineering principles, safety codes, and industry standards.
- Identify and resolve potential risks, limitations, or non-compliance issues early in the proposal stage.
System Design and Engineering
- Develop burner system configurations that meet the customers operational, environmental, and commercial requirements.
- Factor in fuel types, emissions targets, combustion temperatures, pressure ratings, and process integration needs.
- Collaborate with the design team to create layouts, schematics, and supporting documentation.
Equipment Selection and Sizing
- Select suitable instrumentation and mechanical components, including valves, regulators, flow meters, and control systems.
- Use internal tools and calculations to ensure equipment is correctly sized and specified.
- Validate technical compatibility with the client\βs process environment.
Proposal Creation and Documentation
- Produce professional, high-quality technical and commercial proposals including:
- System descriptions
- Technical performance specifications
- Equipment details and drawings
- Cost breakdowns and delivery schedules
Client Engagement and Support
- Act as the main technical point of contact for clients during the quotation stage.
- Provide clear, confident communication on technical issues, specification changes, and solution adjustments.
- Build long-term trust with clients by offering consistent and knowledgeable support.
Internal Handover and Project Readiness
- Prepare detailed project handover packs for the engineering and delivery teams.
- Clearly communicate all technical assumptions, limitations, and decisions made during the proposal stage.
- Support internal teams with clarifications during project kick-off
Occasional International Travel
- Travel overseas when required to attend client meetings, technical reviews, site assessments, or commissioning visits.
What Were Looking For
- Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Process, or a related engineering discipline
- Experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or proposal development
- Knowledge of combustion systems, burners, or process engineering (preferred)
- Strong technical accuracy, analytical skills, and attention to detail
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and process data
- Confident communicator, both written and verbal, across departments and with clients
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
- Full UK driving licence
- Based within approximately one hour of Stamford (PE9 4AQ)
- Willingness to travel internationally as required
