To lead and develop the plant engineering function to reach best in class standards of asset performance and reliability in manufacturing and facilities and to coach and support the development of a capability based proactive process of continuous improvement in all key operational areas underpinned by a strong lean manufacturing culture.

What will this role involve?

  • Leadership of all engineering groups including: maintenance engineering, process engineering and facilities management.
  • Development of all engineering personnel to continue to raise levels of skill, capability and professional competence through: structured coaching, experiential learning and training.
  • Building engineering capability through effective performance management, recruitment and apprenticeship schemes.
  • Driving best in class standards of asset maintenance, performance and reliability through reliability centred maintenance approaches.
  • Building an operator up skilling programme which supports the principle of autonomous maintenance.
  • Effectively managing annual budgets and demonstrating year on year improvement in real costs.
  • Working effectively with group engineering on the development of all major capital projects ensuring that all key milestones are met and that benefits are delivered in line with commitments and business expectations.
  • Developing and maintaining an effective computerised maintenance management system and ensuring that the use of that system’s functionality is maximised.
  • Enhancing organisational culture and performance through effective management of change initiatives.
  • Carrying out all activities in compliance with cGMP, FDA QSR 21CFR820, ISO13485 & MDD94/42/EEC.
  • Holding the role of EHSEn representative for the Plymouth site and driving compliance to all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree required in Mechanical, Biomedical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Substantial and extensive experience of working in plant engineering.
  • Previous Leadership experience in a plant and maintenance engineering function essential.
  • Can demonstrate an excellent experience based knowledge of quality management systems.
  • Can demonstrate substantial achievements in the implementation and maintenance of best in class maintenance systems.
  • Has worked in and is committed to the implementation and development of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Can demonstrate prior achievement in the effective management of organisational change through building a culture in her/his organisation which supports that change.
