If you’re a Network Engineer who enjoys working on business-critical networks rather than just small office setups, this role could be for you.
I’m working with a well-established technology organisation that supports secure, complex network environments. They’re continuing to invest in their network function and are adding an engineer who can take genuine ownership of live infrastructure and be trusted to do things properly.
This is a hands-on role where the network really matters. You won’t just be following runbooks or passing tickets around. You’ll be involved in supporting, maintaining and improving routed and switched networks, working closely with firewalls, VPNs and secure connectivity, and troubleshooting issues that actually require thought rather than guesswork.
Day to day, you’ll be supporting production networks, dealing with incidents end to end, and acting as an escalation point when things get more complex. Alongside the reactive work, there’s also involvement in network changes, improvements and occasional build or commissioning activity, so it’s not just firefighting. Because of the nature of the environments, there is an out-of-hours support rota, but this is a well-run setup rather than constant disruption.
The environment itself is grown-up and professional. It’s regulated, security-conscious and focused on doing things the right way. You’ll be working alongside other experienced engineers and liaising with wider technical teams, so being able to communicate clearly and take responsibility is just as important as your technical skills.
They’re looking for someone with solid experience supporting networks in a live environment. If you’ve worked with Fortinet firewalls, Cisco routing and switching, VPNs and core networking protocols, you’ll feel comfortable here. Experience in telecoms, defence or other regulated industries would be useful, but it’s not essential. What really matters is that you can troubleshoot methodically, stay calm under pressure, and see issues through to resolution. xiskglj
The salary for the role is between £45,000 and £50,000 depending on experience, along with a strong benefits package and the stability that comes with working in a long-term, well-funded environment.
